Srinagar, June 3 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) on Wednesday announced that the famous Gulmarg Gondola will remain closed for tourists till June 8 as technical maintenance and safety inspections continue following last month’s mid-air malfunction.

According to an advisory issued by the corporation, as per news agency JKNS, all tickets booked for travel between May 25 and June 8 will be refunded in full.

As per the advisory, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the Gondola service has remained suspended since May 25 after a technical snag disrupted operations, leaving more than 300 tourists stranded in cabins suspended above the ground.

The incident had triggered panic among passengers and led to a large-scale rescue operation, during which all stranded tourists were safely evacuated after several hours.

Following the incident, authorities suspended operations and initiated a comprehensive technical review. Engineers are currently inspecting key components and carrying out necessary repair and maintenance work to ensure the safety of passengers.

“Due to technical maintenance, the Gondola shall remain closed. All tickets from May 25 to June 8 will be refunded in full,” the advisory stated.

Officials said the Gondola services will resume only after completion of maintenance work and clearance from safety experts, emphasizing that public safety remains the top priority. (JKNS)
