Budgam, Jun 11 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing it of distorting history and misleading people on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir’s political rights and governance.

Speaking at a public gathering in Beerwah, as per per agency JKNS, Itoo stated that the Peoples Democratic Party was created with the support of former BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. She made the remarks while addressing party workers and local residents, criticising the PDP’s political role in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per news agency JKNS, Itoo said PDP leaders should remember their own political history before targeting others, recalling that PDP founder and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had also served as India’s Union Home Minister.

She said those demanding restoration of rights and greater powers today should not ignore decisions taken during periods when PDP was part of governments both at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to the debate on special powers and democratic rights, Itoo said political parties should refrain from making misleading statements and instead acknowledge historical realities.

Taking a dig at the PDP leadership, she alleged that the party sought unconditional support while simultaneously criticising others, asserting that the National Conference would continue to safeguard the interests of the people and resist attempts to weaken democratic institutions.

Itoo said the National Conference remains committed to raising issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir before all constitutional authorities, including the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and the President of India.

She further said that the party would continue its struggle through democratic and constitutional means for the restoration of rights, powers and statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

The minister reiterated that the National Conference’s political agenda is centred on protecting the interests of the people and ensuring that their voice is heard at every level. (JKNS)
