Srinagar, June 21 (JKNS): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Sunday said that yoga is India’s gift to humanity and has emerged as a global movement after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the idea before the United Nations.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an International Yoga Day event organised by the BJP Kashmir unit at Municipal Park Srinagar, Sharma, as per news agency JKNS, said that Yoga Day is being celebrated not only across India but throughout the world.

He said yoga is a philosophy and way of life that can improve the health of individuals, strengthen society and contribute towards a better nation. Sharma stated that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations, countries across the world accepted the initiative, reflecting India’s growing global influence.

The BJP leader extended greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on International Yoga Day and urged citizens to make yoga a regular part of their lives. He said that in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, yoga remains one of the most effective means to maintain physical and mental well-being.

“Yoga is perhaps the strongest hope for a healthy life in the present age. It is India’s message to the world and a gift that benefits all of humanity,” Sharma said.

Responding to a question regarding employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma said there was no dispute over the fact that jobs had been provided, but maintained that employment opportunities should be created through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.

He said educated youth who work hard and prepare for jobs expect fair recruitment mechanisms where appointments are made on the basis of merit and talent.

Sharma criticised what he termed the “backdoor appointment and outsourcing system,” alleging that such practices deprive deserving youth of equal opportunities. He said the BJP strongly opposes any recruitment process that does not follow proper procedures and would continue raising the issue at all forums.

“The youth of Jammu and Kashmir deserve jobs through transparent recruitment policies. We will continue to fight for their rights,” he said.

On the NEET re-examination, Sharma said the issue of alleged irregularities in the examination process had been taken seriously by the Union Government. He expressed confidence that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the conduct of a fair and transparent examination.

He said efforts were being made to restore confidence among students and ensure that merit and fairness prevail in the examination process.

“The shortcomings witnessed earlier have been addressed, and we are hopeful that a transparent system will strengthen the confidence of students regarding their future,” Sharma added. (JKNS)
