Srinagar, June 26 (JKNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday joined the main Youm-e-Ashura procession at Zadibal in Srinagar, where thousands of mourners gathered to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
According to details available with news agency JKNS, the Lieutenant Governor participated in the solemn observance and offered a chadar to Zuljinah, a symbolic tribute associated with the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) during the Ashura procession.
The Lieutenant Governor also distributed water and other refreshments among mourners, interacting with participants and volunteers serving devotees along the traditional procession route.
LG spent time with mourners, extending his respects on the occasion and appreciating the peaceful and disciplined conduct of the procession.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of Kashmir participated in the main Ashura procession, taking part in mourning rituals, Majalis, religious recitations and prayers to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.
Meanwhile, elaborate security and civic arrangements remained in place throughout the procession. Police, civil administration and other departments ensured smooth movement of mourners while medical camps, drinking water facilities and emergency services were deployed at various points along the route.
The Youm-e-Ashura procession concluded peacefully amid religious devotion, with authorities expressing satisfaction over the smooth conduct of one of the Valley’s largest annual religious gatherings. (JKNS)
