Srinagar, June 26 (JKNS): In a remarkable display of public outreach and security management, the top leadership of Jammu and Kashmir Police remained on the ground throughout the Youm-e-Ashura procession in Srinagar on Friday, joining mourners at Zadibal, distributing refreshments and overseeing elaborate security arrangements that ensured the peaceful culmination of one of Kashmir’s largest annual religious gatherings.According to details available with news agency JKNS, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V.K. Birdi, IPS, SSP Srinagar Dr. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, along with other senior police officers, personally monitored the arrangements and participated in the solemn observance.
The senior officers offered glimpses of Zuljinah, interacted with mourners, volunteers and members of the public, and distributed water and refreshments among participants along the procession route. Their presence drew appreciation from mourners, while several local children and youth were seen taking selfies with the senior officers during the event.
Thousands of mourners from different parts of Kashmir participated in the traditional Youm-e-Ashura procession from Bota Kadal to Imam Bara Zadibal, paying homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala through mourning rituals, Majalis and prayers.
Police had put in place an extensive multi-layer security grid for the occasion. Security arrangements included deployment of Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and other security forces, drone surveillance, CCTV monitoring, traffic regulation, quick response teams and coordinated control room monitoring to ensure the smooth conduct of the procession.
Officials said managing such a massive gathering required meticulous planning and close coordination among all security and civil agencies. The top police brass supervised the arrangements on the ground, reviewed crowd movement at various points and remained accessible to mourners throughout the event.
Senior officers said the peaceful conclusion of the procession reflected effective planning, professional policing and the cooperation extended by mourners, volunteers and the general public.
They also appreciated the disciplined conduct of participants, which contributed significantly to the successful observance of Youm-e-Ashura across Srinagar. (JKNS)
