Srinagar, June 29 (JKNS): Srinagar on Monday recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season, with the mercury soaring to 35.3°C, which is 5.3°C above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Details available with news agency JKNS from the IMD’s daily weather bulletin shows that the prolonged heatwave continues to grip Kashmir, with several stations recording temperatures well above normal.

Qazigund recorded 33.8°C (5.0°C above normal), Kokernag 32.9°C (5.0°C above normal), Gulmarg 26.2°C (5.2°C above normal), Kupwara 32.7°C (2.7°C above normal), while Pahalgam recorded 29.0°C, which was 3.6°C above normal.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 36.9°C, slightly below its normal maximum of 37.0°C, while Katra recorded 35.6°C and Banihal 31.9°C.

The IMD data also shows that no rainfall was recorded across most weather stations during the day.

The ongoing spell has pushed temperatures across Kashmir significantly above seasonal averages, with weather experts already warning that heatwave conditions are likely to persist over the next 24 to 48 hours before gradual relief is expected later this week under the influence of a fresh western disturbance.
