Baramulla, June 30 (JKNS): The residents of Delina, one of the largest and most prominent villages of Baramulla district in terms of population, have expressed deep concern over the continued neglect of their long-pending civic issues, particularly the acute shortage of drinking water and the erratic supply of electricity.

Delina has earned a distinguished reputation for its educational, literary and social contributions.

The village has produced eminent educationists, doctors, engineers, police officers and many other professionals serving in prestigious positions across the country.

Despite being strategically located along the National Highway, the village continues to suffer from a lack of basic amenities.

The drinking water crisis has persisted for several years. Although work on a water supply scheme was initiated, it has remained stalled for unknown reasons, leaving thousands of residents without a reliable source of potable water.

Repeated representations and memoranda submitted to the District Administration, Baramulla, have failed to yield any concrete action.

The situation has become so severe that women from the village are compelled to walk nearly three kilometres every day to Kanspora to fetch drinking water from a natural spring, causing immense hardship and inconvenience.

The electricity situation is equally alarming. Despite the entire village being fully metered, residents continue to face frequent and prolonged power outages, disrupting daily life, education, and livelihoods.

The people of Delina have urged the District Administration Baramulla, the Jal Shakti Department, and the Power Development Department to take immediate and effective measures to resolve these long-standing issues.

They have demanded the early completion of the pending water supply scheme, the provision of a reliable drinking water supply, and significant improvement in electricity services.

The residents warned that if their genuine grievances continue to be ignored, they will be left with no option but to launch peaceful and democratic protests to secure their basic rights. They stressed that the responsibility for any such situation would rest entirely with the concerned authorities. (JKNS)
