Srinagar, July 9 (JKNS): More than 6,600 students will appear in the National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) examination across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday (July 10), with the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) putting in place elaborate arrangements and a multi-layer monitoring mechanism to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of the examination.

The examination will be conducted at 97 centres established across the Union Territory in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to safeguard the integrity of the high-profile scholarship examination.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, JKBOSE said that candidates will compete for 1,068 scholarship seats allotted to Jammu and Kashmir. Successful candidates will be eligible for an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 for a period of four years, beginning from Class IX (9).

The National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), a flagship programme of the Government of India, has been instrumental in encouraging meritorious students from socio-economically weaker sections to pursue their academic aspirations over the years.

JKBOSE said that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure complete transparency through a multi-layer monitoring mechanism involving Chief Education Officers (CEOs), Heads of Institutions (HOIs), Board officials and invigilators.

The Board added that qualifying the examination provides meritorious students with crucial financial support for their secondary education. Over the years, several beneficiaries of the scheme have gone on to qualify prestigious national-level competitive examinations, including NEET and JEE. (JKNS)
