Budgam, Aug 3 (JKNS): In a significant step towards strengthening educational infrastructure in the Beerwah constituency, MLA Beerwah Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ahmad Wani on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed school building at Middle School (MS) Lassipora in Budgam district.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from the Education Department and the Public Works Department (R&B), heads of educational institutions, teachers, students, local residents, and other dignitaries.

Among those present on the occasion were Zonal Education Officer Beerwah Fouzia Buch, Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Khansahib, Principal Higher Secondary School Attina Beerwah Hassrat Hafeez, Head of Institution MS Lassipora Mohammad Shafi Dar, Zonal Cultural Coordinator Arif Mohi-ud-Din, and several heads of schools from Zone Beerwah.

Constructed by the R&B Division Budgam at an estimated cost of ₹51.5 lakh, the new school building is expected to significantly improve educational facilities for hundreds of students from Lassipora and adjoining areas. Local residents welcomed the completion of the project and described it as a major milestone in the educational progress of the area.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ahmad Wani emphasized that quality education and modern educational infrastructure are essential for shaping the future of younger generations. He said the government remains committed to strengthening educational institutions and ensuring that students have access to improved learning facilities and a conducive academic environment.

He noted that students from rural areas possess immense talent and potential, and providing them with equal opportunities is a shared responsibility of the government, parents, teachers, and society at large. Dr. Wani stressed that educational development is not limited to constructing buildings alone but also requires quality teaching, the integration of modern technology, and active parental involvement.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve facilities at the institution, Dr. Wani informed the gathering that furniture worth ₹1 lakh has already been provided to the school. In addition, ₹5 lakh has been earmarked for the establishment of a modern digital smart classroom. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the implementation of the project so that students can benefit from contemporary teaching methods and digital learning resources at the earliest.

Expressing concern over the issue of school dropout rates among girls, the MLA underscored the importance of promoting girls’ education. He stated that every girl deserves equal access to quality education and that all stakeholders must work collectively to ensure that no child is deprived of educational opportunities.

Dr. Wani further announced that sincere efforts would be made to upgrade Middle School Lassipora to the level of a High School in the future. He expressed optimism that positive progress in this regard would be achieved soon. According to him, such an upgrade would greatly benefit local students, particularly girls, by enabling them to pursue education up to the matriculation level within their own locality, thereby reducing the need to travel long distances.

Speaking about the role of teachers in society, Dr. Wani described them as the true architects of the nation and acknowledged their invaluable contribution to the intellectual and moral development of students. He paid tribute to teachers for their dedication and commitment to shaping future generations. Recalling his own educational journey, he said that he himself had studied in a government school and that many successful individuals across various fields …
