Kulgam, Aug 7 (JKNS): In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir and the nation, Shaista Jan from Kulgam has brought laurels to India by winning one silver and two bronze medals at the 18th WEKAF World Arnis Championship 2026, held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
Representing India at the prestigious international championship, Shaista delivered an impressive performance, displaying remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship against athletes from across the world, as per news agency JKNS.
The championship was held from August 1 to 4, 2026, bringing together Arnis athletes from several countries. Shaista’s performance earned India three medals and brought immense pride to Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir and the entire nation.
Speaking after her achievement, Shaista Jan shared an inspiring message for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
“My message to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir is to believe in themselves and have the courage to pursue their dreams. Success does not come overnight; it requires discipline, dedication, patience and continuous hard work,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of sports in shaping young minds and personalities, saying, “Sports not only make us physically strong but also teach us confidence, teamwork, discipline and resilience. I encourage every young person to discover their talent, stay focused on their goals and make the best use of every opportunity.”
Appealing to the younger generation to remain positive and united, she added, “Let us work hard, stay away from negativity, support one another and make our families, Jammu & Kashmir and our nation proud.”
