Srinagar, Aug 9 (JKNS): Srinagar Police have arrested a man accused of repeatedly defrauding businessmen and shopkeepers through fraudulent means and impersonation, with multiple complaints and FIRs registered against him across the Valley, police said.
Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS stated that it have arrested a habitual fraudster, Ubaid Maqbool Khawaja, son of Maqbool Ahmad Khawaja, resident of Gomal Chek, Tangdar, presently residing at Habib Colony, Alochi Bagh in connection with FIR No. 45/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 319 BNS, registered at Police Station Mahraj Gunj.
The accused have defrauded and duped several businessmen and shopkeepers through fraudulent means and impersonation. Multiple complaints have been received against him from different parts of the Valley, besides multiple FIRs registered against him at various Police Stations.
These include FIR No. 76/2022 under Section 430 IPC at Police Station Kothibagh and FIR No. 83/2023 under Sections 201, 379, 416 and 430 IPC at Police Station Pulwama.
The accused has also previously been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in view of his continued involvement in criminal activities.
Further investigation is underway to establish his wider network and ascertain his involvement in other instances of fraud. (JKNS)
