Budgam, August 24: The second phase of the capacity-building training workshop under the “Classes of Joy” and “Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL)” programme, being implemented jointly by the District Administration Budgam and Pratham Education Foundation, concluded on Monday at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Beerwah. The valedictory session was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, who interacted with teachers and emphasized the effective implementation of child-centric, activity-based, and level-appropriate teaching practices.

The workshop was attended by teachers from the Beerwah educational zone. It aimed to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy among primary school children by addressing learning gaps through engaging, activity-based, and learner-friendly teaching methodologies.

During the interaction, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed various training activities and discussed the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach with participating teachers. He highlighted the importance of activity-based learning, play-way methods, and continuous assessment of children’s learning outcomes while also listening to feedback and experiences shared by teachers.

He said the programme is designed to ensure that every child is taught according to his or her actual learning level rather than grade level, enabling students to gradually achieve the desired learning outcomes. He urged teachers to integrate the innovative teaching strategies learned during the training into their daily classroom practices to significantly improve students’ foundational skills.

Explaining the programme’s methodology, the Deputy Commissioner said that children are first assessed to determine their learning levels, then grouped according to their abilities, followed by targeted teaching interventions and regular evaluations to monitor progress. He expressed confidence that this systematic approach would effectively bridge learning gaps among students.

Appreciating the dedication of teachers, he said the success of the initiative depends on continuous monitoring, academic support, and active participation of educators. He expressed hope that effective implementation of the programme across all government schools in the district would lead to significant improvements in children’s foundational literacy, writing, and numeracy skills.

According to officials, the “Classes of Joy” initiative covers more than 850 government schools, around 4,600 teachers, and over 45,000 students across Budgam district. A comprehensive system of teacher training, mentoring, monitoring, and academic support has been established to ensure effective implementation of the programme and provide quality education to every child.

Among those present on the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam Meraj-ud-Din Shah, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Beerwah Tawfeeq Ahmad Gazi, the Chief Education Officer Budgam, the Principal DIET Beerwah, the Tehsildar Beerwah, and officers from various departments.
