Baramulla, Sept 11: A Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was organised today at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, as a joint initiative of Global Diagnostic & Imaging Centre, Kanispora, in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla.
The programme aimed to create awareness about breast cancer, its warning signs and risk factors, while stressing the importance of early detection, regular health check-ups and preventive healthcare.
The occasion was graced by Hon’ble MLA Baramulla, Jinab Javed Hassan Beigh Sahib, as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble MLA Kreeri-Sangrama Constituency Jinab Irfan Hafiz Lone Sahib and other distinguished guests, including Dr. A.G. Raina, Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Father Sosia Rajan Vice Principal Saint Joseph’s School Baramulla, Smt. Dalvinder Kour, Prof. Tabish Majid Wani and Prof. Shazia Ashraf were also present.
Addressing the gathering, renowned Surgical Oncologist Dr. Shabnum Bashir emphasised the need to address changing lifestyles in Jammu and Kashmir and adopt healthier habits to reduce cancer-related risks.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Shabnum Bashir said that lifestyle has become a major concern in J&K and stressed the need for people to bring positive changes to their daily routines.
She also emphasised the importance of awareness and timely medical consultation, saying that women, particularly those aged 30 years and above, should remain vigilant about their breast health and undergo appropriate medical check-ups so that any abnormality can be detected at an early stage.
Dr. Shabnum further said that breast cancer can present with different signs and symptoms, making awareness programmes important for educating people about what to look for and when to seek medical advice.
She urged women not to ignore unusual changes or symptoms and encouraged them to consult qualified medical professionals without delay.
The distinguished guests appreciated the initiative and highlighted that awareness, early detection and timely treatment can significantly improve outcomes and save lives.
Representatives of Global Diagnostic & Imaging Centre said the centre remains committed to promoting accessible diagnostic services and supporting health-awareness initiatives across North Kashmir.
The collaboration with educational institutions, they said, provides an effective platform to reach students, teachers, parents and the wider community.
The programme also focused on removing fear and stigma surrounding cancer and encouraging people to openly discuss health concerns and seek medical guidance when required.
