Srinagar, Sept 16 (JKNS): The International Authority of Body Building , Powerlifting , Fitness and Armwrestling (IABPFA) organised the North India Deadlift Championship 2026 at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex here, bringing together powerlifters from across the india for a high-intensity display of strength, technique and competitive spirit.
The championship witnessed participation from athletes representing different parts of North India, with lifters competing in various weight categories and battling to register their names among the strongest deadlifters at the regional level.
The event was aimed at providing a competitive platform to emerging as well as experienced athletes and promoting powerlifting and strength sports among young people.
The deadlift, one of the three fundamental powerlifting disciplines, requires athletes to lift a loaded barbell from the floor to a standing position while maintaining proper technique. The competition at the indoor sports complex saw lifters attempt progressively heavier weights, with athletes relying on strength, precision and mental focus to complete their lifts.
Speaking on the occasion, IABPFA president Fardeem Hussain said the championship was part of the association’s efforts to promote strength sports and provide athletes with opportunities to compete at a higher level.
The president said the association was committed to creating more competitive opportunities for athletes and encouraging youngsters to take up sports as a means of developing discipline, fitness and confidence.
The championship also provided a platform for athletes from Jammu and Kashmir to compete alongside lifters from other parts of North India, helping expose local competitors to a wider competitive field.
Organisers said such competitions were important for identifying promising talent and creating a pathway for athletes seeking to compete at state, national and international levels.
The event attracted athletes, coaches, officials and fitness enthusiasts, while the atmosphere inside the venue remained charged as competitors approached the bar for their attempts.
The North India Deadlift Championship 2026 concluded with the recognition of outstanding performers, with top athletes receiving medals, trophies and certificates for their performances. (JKNS)
