September 30: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and illegal substances, Shopian Police arrested two persons and recovered 43 illicit liquor bottles from their possession.
During routine naka checking at Arhama, a police party from Police Station Shopian noticed two persons moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended them. During their search, 43 liquor bottles were recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Lawaris, son of Suriyaban Chavan, resident of Kanheri Akhola, Maharashtra, and Daramdas Khosla, son of Dhamdhari Khosla, resident of Amantpur Akhloa, Maharashtra, both presently residing at Alyalpora Shopian. Accordingly, FIR No. 204/2026 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and establish the forward and backward linkages.
