Tanghdar/Karnah, September 30, 2026: In the aftermath of the tragic Seemari road accident, which claimed five lives and left six others injured, authorities intensified traffic enforcement across Karnah on Wednesday, with multiple checking points established at strategic locations to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and strengthen road safety.
A special enforcement drive was conducted in Tanghdar/Karnah in coordination with the Sector Officer, Karnah, and concerned ARTO authorities, focusing on identifying serious traffic violations and taking strict action against violators.
DySP North Kashmir, Mujhaid Nazir, personally visited and remained present during the enforcement arrangements, overseeing the intensified checking and enforcement measures in the area.
Following directions from SSP Kupwara, SHO Karnah was instructed to deploy police personnel at different nakas and strategic locations across Karnah. Accordingly, checking points were established at several locations, including Bagbela, Kandi, Taad, Gabra and the main Tanghdar area, covering different routes and entry points to ensure comprehensive vehicle checking.
Police personnel deployed at these nakas conducted checking of vehicles and documents, while transport authorities took action against violations under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the special enforcement drive, a total of 10 vehicles were seized, while 27 e-Compound challans were issued for various traffic violations.
Further enforcement action included three vehicles recommended for blacklisting, while five cases were referred to the court for legal proceedings. In addition, five cases were recommended for cancellation of driving licences through the ARTO.
The ARTO authorities also took immediate action during the drive. Registration Certificates (RCs) of nine vehicles were suspended on the spot, while eight challans were issued by the ARTO. Furthermore, two driving licences were suspended on the spot in cases warranting such action.
The intensified enforcement comes in the wake of the recent Seemari road accident, in which five people lost their lives and six others sustained injuries. The incident has brought renewed focus on road safety and the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations, particularly on the challenging roads of the Karnah sector.
The deployment of personnel at multiple locations across Karnah was aimed at preventing violations through visible enforcement and ensuring that motorists follow traffic rules. The drive also focused on identifying serious and repeated violations that could pose a risk to the lives of passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
The enforcement operation witnessed coordinated participation by DySP North Kashmir Mujhaid Nazir, SHO Karnah and police personnel deployed at various nakas, along with the Sector Officer, Karnah, and concerned ARTO authorities.
Authorities reiterated that strict vehicle checking and enforcement will continue across Karnah and Tanghdar, with the objective of improving road discipline, promoting responsible driving and preventing avoidable road accidents.
