Board stresses plastic ban, protection of Dal Lake, ethical trade, agricultural revival and stronger family values for a balanced society

Srinagar/Jammu, May 19 (JKNS): An important meeting of the Muslim Personal Law Board Jammu & Kashmir was held in which detailed deliberations were carried out on a wide range of issues including social reform, environmental protection, moral awareness, family stability, agricultural development, and public welfare.

The meeting, as per news agency JKNS, chaired by Grand Mufti of Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman of MPL Board Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, underlined the need for collective responsibility, practical action and moral consciousness to build a healthy, self-reliant and balanced society.

During the meeting, several key resolutions were unanimously adopted, including launching a mass “No to Plastic” campaign, promoting ethical and interest-free trade practices, encouraging self-reliance, strict action against food adulteration, and protection of Dal Lake and other water bodies.

The board also resolved to promote plantation drives, curb illegal deforestation, safeguard agricultural land, and encourage sustainable and natural farming practices as part of long-term environmental protection measures.

Expressing concern over rising unemployment, participants said the agricultural sector must be strengthened as a viable source of livelihood and self-employment for youth across Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting also stressed reducing unnecessary vehicular use to control pollution, traffic congestion and environmental degradation, while encouraging shared transport systems and simpler lifestyles.

On social issues, concern was expressed over moral decline, increasing divorce rates and weakening family structures. Participants emphasised the need for strong character building, mutual respect, proper upbringing of children, and reinforcement of moral and religious values.

The board further stressed equipping the younger generation with a combination of religious teachings, modern education, technological awareness and intellectual development to enable them to meet contemporary challenges effectively.

The meeting appealed to the government, religious bodies, educational institutions, civil society, media and the general public to actively support and implement these resolutions for the creation of a more responsible, stable and environmentally conscious society.

The meeting witnessed participation from representatives across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Leh-Ladakh, along with prominent religious scholars, social activists and public representatives. (JKNS)
